A 19.7 mega watt run-of-river renewable energy project will soon rise in Isabela after a Memorandum of Agreement was signed Wednesday, October 10, 2018 between the Provincial Government of Isabela and the Rio Norte Hydro Power Corporation (RNHC).
Present during the signing of MoA were Isabela Gov. Faustino G. Dy III, Echague town Mayor Francis Faustino Dy and officials from Rio Norte Hydro Power Incorporated represented by Executive Vice President Manolo Candelaria, and witnessed by Isabela Vice Gov. Antonio Albano and Cagayan Economic Zone Authority Administrator Raul Lambino.
“This hydro power project is a welcome development in our municipality as it is expected to bring down the cost of electricity and generate a host of beneficial programs ,” Mayor Dy said.
According to Lawyer Clarence Jandoc, vice president for Legal Affairs of Rio Norte Hydro Power Corporation, the construction of the project located at barangay San Miguel, Echague, is expected to commence next year.
He said the run-of-river hydro power project is expected to produce 85 million kilowatts of energy per year to the cities of Cauayan and Santiago including the municipalities of Alicia, Angadanan, Cabatuan, Cordon, Echague, Jones, Luna, Ramon, Reina Mercedes, San Agustin, San Guillermo, San Isidro, and San Mateo.
“The project does not end with the development and construction of the hydro power project, the company will undertake the development of eco-tourism road and several community social programs and projects,” Jandoc said.
He added, the company will upgrade the existing provincial road from barangay Mabbayad to San Miguel into an all-weather road that will extend into municipal road going to majestic Ilaguen river.
Governor Dy said the signing of the MOA is an important milestone for Isabela. “Overall, these projects are envisioned to help strengthen the economy of Echague and boost the eco-tourism industry in the province,” he added.
